Lovely letters!

Hello, Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you've all enjoyed your time over the festivities...and they haven't finished yet, we've still the New Year to see in too. Hurray!

I was busy working right up to Christmas Eve preparing some gifts (even employing my family to get the work done quicker). I felt like a real Christmas Elf! I made wooden letters, hand painted them in an array of gorgeous colours - some from the Craig & Rose 1829 range - and linked these together with wire to form some pretty name blocks. I've now decided to make an abundance of these for signs, catchphrases, you name it! So watch out for more over the coming weeks.

I've also been sketching some new designs for 2012. I'm really excited about how I've developed over the past year since picking up my pencils again. This blog account may only be a couple of months old, but I started painting back in January 2011 for the first time in over a decade, and have learned to love it all again. Now I'm kicking myself over those missed 10 years! But this is how life goes, and everything happens for a reason. Now, I'm determined to get out as much as I can from my fingertips and hopefully someone will be impressed enough to want to help me make a living from it.

Have a great new year folks! x

Signage

Greetings readers, recently I have been working on hand painted signs for interior and exterior decor. I've just finished two of them - a name plaque for a wee gorgeous girl called Libby Ursa W., and a Plas Newydd home sign to hang at the end of a drive. Both experimental, I've never painted a bear or acorns before, but am pleased with the results.

Libby's was painted with acrylic, sanded to give it a more natural effect, and finished with fabric, ribbon and button applique. The little bear is her symbol (Ursa). Similar to the Evie plaque in design, whilst a little different too, as each plaque is handmade and no two will ever be exactly the same.

The house sign is on a bright background so it can be easily spotted on the country road, especially in the dark, and has acorns and oak leaves because there are old oak trees on the land. For some reason, I just wanted to carry on painting leaves onto this one...worked hard to not get carried away with swirly branches!

Both plaques are completely different and both have been given my undivided love and attention. I even worked on them whilst the heating was off, wearing earmuffs, gilet and a thick woollen scarf in the study (had also just taken my gloves off). That's dedication!

I've a fair few more signs to do and can't wait to see how they turn out. Some are Christmas related and others will be more name plaques and seasonal decor. Check back in the new year to see pics!

A little rummage...

Oooh, I love that word, rummage! Reminds me of going through old bags of clothes and finding outfits that can be revamped, or new toys to play with! All about bringing out and dusting off some old work. So I thought I'd have a rummage through my work and pop up some new images...
